Why it matters
Why service a heat pump every year?
Heat pumps are sealed, reliable systems with a long life, but they are not fit-and-forget.
- Your warranty. Most manufacturers recommend annual servicing, and regular servicing is usually needed to keep the warranty valid.
- Running costs. Blocked filters, a dirty outdoor coil or flow temperatures set too high still keep the house warm, just less efficiently. You pay for that on every bill.
- Breakdowns. Most faults give some warning. An autumn service finds them before the first cold snap, not during it.
What is included
A thorough annual service
- outdoor unit checked, coil and fan cleared of leaves and debris, drainage and mounting checked
- refrigerant circuit inspected, plus any checks your system requires under F-gas rules
- filters and strainers cleaned, system pressure and expansion vessel checked
- antifreeze concentration checked where your system uses it
- electrical connections, sensors and controls checked
- heating curve, flow temperatures and schedules set up for the season ahead
- hot water cylinder, immersion and legionella cycle checked, plus the annual unvented cylinder safety check
- a written summary of what we found and anything we recommend

Higher running costs without an obvious reason usually mean the system has drifted from its best settings.
Lukewarm heating
Radiators or underfloor heating that never quite get warm enough.
Ice that stays
A short defrost cycle is normal. An outdoor unit that stays iced up is not.
Codes, noises or pressure drops
Error codes on the controller, new noises, or water pressure that keeps falling.
